It’s no secret that I like things that smell nice! If you’ve spent any time looking around my other articles on this site you’ll know that I’m a sucker for perfume, diffusers, air fresheners – just anything that smells nice really!
You might even recall this article in which I review Scent Box Perfume subscription – the gist of it is, I Ioved receiving new perfumes in the mail every month but I didn’t love that I was being charged in US dollars or that my fragrances were being shipped from overseas.
I ultimately decided to cancel my Scent Box subscription with the idea that I would maybe start again with an Australian (based and owned) company if one ever started up.
Which is why I got a little excited when I was recently targeted by an Instagram ad for a company called ‘Scent For Success’. At this stage Scent For Success only offers men’s cologne, in fact they claim to be the ‘only cologne subscription in Australia made just for men’.
While slightly disappointed that there was nothing in it for me, I happen to be the mother of a teenage boy who loves cologne. Not just any cologne mind you, my boy has a taste for the good things in life and likes to indulge in luxury, designer scents (read ‘expensive’).
Of course he gets the occasional bottle of good (expensive) cologne for Christmas and/or birthday presents, but the idea of spending just $20 a month for him to receive a different designer scent each month seemed like a very attractive offer.
And that is exactly what Scent For Success can offer! For just $19.99 per month (including delivery) you will receive an atomizer full of a designer branded men’s cologne. They’ve partnered with brands such as Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren, so you know that you’ll be getting a quality fragrance each month.
I had no choice! I had to sign my son up to give this cologne subscription service a try. (It’s OK, I gave it to him as a birthday present – it makes a great gift because it lasts all year – it really is the gift that keeps on giving!).
When our (his) first order arrived we were delighted to discover that they had included a bonus atomizer in his order just to say thanks for subscribing!
I don’t know if they do that for everyone so I can’t promise you that you will get two for the price of one in your first order, but it was a very nice surprise for us – he got two 8 ml atomizers of cologne, Obsession For Men by Calvin Klein and Legend by Mont Blanc.
Needless to say he was pretty happy with his new colognes and yes, as you’d expect given the names of the designers behind the brands we received, they both smell fantastic!
In fact, when he got home from his first shift in his new casual job (as a waiter) he happily reported that he had 4 different people ask him what cologne he was wearing as he smelled so good! That’s got to help with on-the-job confidence and success!
The next month when the nice, padded black packet arrived he received an atomizer of Eternity For Men Aqua by Calvin Klein, another lovely scent which he enjoys wearing!
Comparison Between Scent For Success And Scent Box
You know that I loved my Scent Box subscription but I did have a couple of problems with it being based in the USA and dealing in US dollars. Scent For Success is a fully Australian business so it easily wins in this category – it’s $19.99 Australian dollars being billed to your credit card each month and the fragrances arrive within a couple of days as they are being shipped from Melbourne (my home town).
As far as the bottles or atomizers go, both hold the same amount of scent – supposedly 8ml, which should last about a month of everyday spraying (of course it depends how much you like to spray and how many body parts you like to spray your cologne on, but we’ve found that both Scent Box and Scent For Success provide you with a decent amount of fragrance).
If I had to choose though, I would say that the Scent Box atomizers are a little bit nicer than the Scent for Success ones.
If I’d never received the fancy ones from Scent Box I wouldn’t know any different and would no doubt be happy with the ones we received from Scent For Success but, this is my honest review, and I think the Scent Box ones are nicer – I prefer the colour and I like the way you just need to twist it to reveal the spray head.
Scent For Success is, of course, tailored to men so they probably wouldn’t like the hot pink colours used by Scent Box and might think the silver/grey of the Scent For Success bottles looks classy and, well, successful. So this is probably just a matter of personal preference.
