If you’re partial to a sponge cake, a pav, or any other kind of home baked treat, you’re going to want some kind of electric mixer in your kitchen.

Hand beaters are great especially if it’s just for a small, quick job, but if you’re a serious home baker (or would like to be), you’re going to want to get yourself a good stand mixer.

A stand mixer is such an asset in the kitchen. You can turn it on and let it start creaming your butter and sugar while you get busy gathering and measuring all the other ingredients you’re going to need.

And, if you ever make pavlova or meringues of any kind, you need a stand mixer in your life! No more standing there holding your hand beaters waiting for your egg whites to stiffen! Just add your ingredients to the bowl, turn it on and walk away!

What To Look For When Choosing A Stand Mixer

Power

Check the wattage of a stand mixer – the higher the wattage, the more powerful the mixer. This is especially important if you plan on using your machine for heavy bread dough or for long periods of time.

Size

Stand mixers are generally quite big and bulky so make sure you’ve got space to store and use it.

The bowl size will determine the capacity of each machine so, if you’ve got a large family or like to bake in bulk, you’ll want to go for a mixer with a nice large bowl.

Accessories

Most stand mixers come with some different attachments like dough hooks and whisks. Some will have included extra attachments (like meat grinders) while others have attachments available for an add on purchase.

Determine whether you’re ever likely to use attachments and accessories before deciding if their inclusion is a good deal for you or not.

Appearance

These days stand mixers come in all sorts of pretty colours! If aesthetics are important to you, you might like to choose one that matches your kitchen decor.

Best Stand Mixers Australia

Now let’s take a closer look at each of these stand mixers and all that they have to offer.

OK, so the price may be a sticking point for many…this is an expensive piece of kitchen machinery! But, if you’re really into baking, the Kenwood Chef Stand Mixer is a worthy investment. If money were no object, this is the machine I would recommend, hands down over the other stand mixers available.

It has a powerful, 1700W motor which enables it to maintain its speed even under heavy loads. The extra large, 6.7L capacity mixing bowl is a huge plus too.

The machine is so cleverly designed though that, even if you’re only working with smaller mixtures and therefore don’t really need the huge bowl, the mixer is just as effective. So, it’s perfect for no matter how much you’re cooking.

It comes with a whole bunch of attachments included: stainless steel Baking Tools SYSTEMPRO – Creaming Beater, Dough Hook, Flat k-Beater, Whisk, Folding tool and also Splash Guard and Spatula.

But, my favourite feature of this amazing stand mixer? The light! Such a simple idea but a game changer in the kitchen, “Place the spotlight on your baking with Halo in-bowl illumination. Have total control and watch as your ingredients combine.”

It also has electronic speed control which allows complete control while mixing with the choice of variable speeds. There’s also the ability to pulse and even a fold setting – is there anything this machine cannot do?

All the removable parts are dishwasher safe which is a great way to make the cleaning up experience easier and drama free.

If you really like your baking and have the funds available, you will not regret this purchase.

KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer

KitchenAid is the brand name most people associate with stand mixers and with good reason – KitchenAid stand mixers are top notch. There are a variety of colours you can now get KitchenAid mixers in, so why am I showing you a boring old silver one?

When researching for this article, I couldn’t go past the overwhelming support I found for this particular model – people love it!

Surprisingly it has the lowest wattage of all the mixers we’ve featured here, but clearly the 300W motor has not held this machine back.

It comes with 2 bowls – a 4.8L and a 2.8L so you can choose appropriately according to the quantity of food you are preparing. It also comes with a flat beater, stainless steel wire whisk, dough hook and pouring shield as standard inclusions.

Reviewers love that it’s easy to use and easy to clean and works so well, the only negative anyone had to say was that it is expensive, they wished that it came at a more affordable price point.

While not as expensive as the Kenwood, KitchenAid stand mixers do command a high price, but the good reputation of the brand behind the price makes the cost somewhat justifiable.

There’s a lot to love about the Breville “The Scraper” Bench Mixer. Put away your spatula, this clever machine uses a double sided scraper beater which scrapes the bowl up to 1120 times per minute, so you don’t have to!

Its powerful 700 watt motor wipes the sides and bottom of the bowl with every turn – leaving your ingredients light and fluffy. The “planetary mixing action” enables 360 degree coverage of the mixing bowl which results in superior mixing, kneading and whipping.

It is one of the smaller bowl capacities of stand mixers featured here, but 4.5L is still a decent size for regular household baking.

Reviewers of this product are very happy with their purchase saying the scraper works well, the machine is of high quality and it makes baking so much easier.

This has a good mid range price point making it a good solid option from a reputable brand for those who don’t want to invest too much in a stand mixer but still expect quality.

If you’re working with a tighter budget, this stand mixer from Ausbuy is definitely worth a look. It’s the most affordable (cheapest) stand mixer on our list and yet still comes with typical attachments most machines seem to come with, including dough hook, wire whip, beater and even a splash cover.

The 900W motor would have plenty of power to work with the 4.5L mixing bowl with plenty of reviewers stating how impressed they are with the power of this machine, especially considering the price.

Could this be the best budget stand mixer in Australia? Maybe – this is definitely a machine to consider if you’re just starting out or are on a tight budget.

The Russell Hobbs Kitchen Machine offers both a stand mixer and a blender in one. It comes with your typical bench mixer attachments like beater, dough hook and whisk, as well as 1.5L glass jug blender attachment, so you can use your machine for blending liquids as well.

It also has a transparent splash guard with a window for adding ingredients making it easy to view and add ingredients as you go, while also guarding against splashes and mess.

The powerful 1000W motor has 10 different speeds (as well as a pulsing action) and gives you plenty of power to mix even the stiffest bread dough, while the “planetary mixing action” gives excellent mixing results in no time.

If you’re looking for an affordable stand mixer from a reputable brand and could also use a blender as well, this might be the product for you.

Another offering from Breville, The Bakery Chef™ Hub stand mixer is a pretty powerful machine with a 1000W motor and 360 degrees full bowl coverage, allowing for professional results every time.

It is also very versatile with a Breville first state-of-the-art attachment hub, so you can turn the Bakery Chef™ Hub into a handy kitchen helper by purchasing the optional food prep hub attachments.

The 7 speed electronic control dial with ‘push to pause’ and auto soft start makes this machine super easy to use, but the most unique aspect of this mixer is the count-up/count-down timer which is an added bonus for extra control.

At the upper end of the mid-range price point, this is a nice looking, high quality machine that would be an excellent addition to any kitchen.

If you’re someone who likes your kitchen appliances to be able to do more than one thing, check out the MIC Stand Mixer. This 3 in 1 multi-functional stand mixer is not just a mixer but also a meat grinder and a blender.

With this electric mixer, you can whip, blend, mix, beat, knead and grind your meat! Not bad for an affordably priced stand mixer!

The powerful 1100W motor has plenty of grunt to fuel the 5.5L large capacity stainless steel bowl which can mix up to 2KG of ingredients.

This stand mixer comes with 5 attachments including a whisk, a beater, a silicone beater, a dough hook and a silicone spatula. All of the attachments are dishwasher safe so clean up is easy.

It also comes with three sizes of cutting plates, 3mm, 5mm, 7mm and a 1.5L glass blender. So, if you’re looking for value for money, this little unit has got it in spades!

For the price reviewers are very happy with this product with many impressed with the 3 functions – not just a stand mixer but also a blender and meat grinder. The only negative seems to be that it can be a little noisy to operate, especially at higher speeds.

If you’re looking for a multifunctional appliance at a good price, this could be the machine you are after.

Which Stand Mixer Should You Buy?

There’s no definitive answer to this – it all depends on what you are looking for and which mixer would best suit your needs.

Personally, I’m holding out for a Kenwood Chef XL – it’s hands down the best – but it has a price point to match.

If I had to choose a mid range mixer, I’d go with the Breville “The Scraper” and if my budget was really tight, I’d pick the Ausbuy Stand Mixer.

But, all in all, any of these stand mixers would be a great addition to the kitchen of any home.
