By now we all know that babymoons can be a great way to connect more deeply with yourself and your partner before the arrival of a new baby.

But, what if a true babymoon holiday/vacation is just not within your budget, or your schedule right now? You’ve only got 9 months to fit in a babymoon, you can’t just put it off or the baby will be here and your babymoon will turn into a family holiday!

Enter the babymoon staycation! That’s right, you don’t have to go anywhere to enjoy a babymoon, you can do it from the comfort of your own home, or, if you prefer, from a nearby hotel or B&B.

Why A Staycation Is A Great Idea For Your Babymoon

You and your partner can enjoy all the benefits of a babymoon without leaving your local area, or maybe even your house!

A staycation babymoon is the perfect way to spend some valuable time together as a couple before the hurricane of family life begins.

Just spending time together away from the distractions of work and other commitments will give you all the benefits of a babymoon without costing the earth and bypassing all the downsides that come from travelling – motion sickness, airport delays, lost luggage etc.

Preparing for a Babymoon Staycation

Typically when preparing for a babymoon vacation or holiday you would be advised to carry a  copy of your prenatal records just in case. You would also be advised to check with your obstetrician (particularly if you’ve had any complications in your pregnancy) about your holiday plans, especially if you were planning on travelling overseas.

However, one of the huge advantages of planning a babymoon staycation is you don’t need to do any of this! You’re staying at home (or near your home) so if anything happens medically, you can just call your doctor or visit your local hospital.

To be prepared for your babymoon vacation you need to have some idea of how you plan to spend your time together. Prepare by gathering or buying all the things you might need to make your staycation special – your favourite foods, a book you want to read or maybe some special, pregnancy safe massage oils.

You’ll also want to prepare by blanking out your diaries for the days of your babymoon staycation. No work commitments or even social engagements should take time away from this time together.

Create a bubble for yourselves to just indulge in being together. Pretend that you have gone away on a vacation so you can’t look after the neighbour’s kids for half an hour or mow the lawn, because you are away.

Cheap Babymoon Staycation Ideas

For those looking for cheap babymoon ideas, there are plenty of options to choose from. You could stay in a local hotel, go on a road trip to a place you’ve always wanted to see, go camping, take a beach trip, or spend a day at a local spa.

Alternatively, you might want to indulge in a series of dates with your partner. You could spend a long weekend in your own house, where you sleep in, indulge in your favourite foods, and watch movies with your partner in a house which is likely soon to be filled with chaos.

Alternatively, you could spend a day compiling your favourite photographs and memories in a little book, or recreating your first date. Anything where you are actively taking the time to spend with your loved one could be considered a babymoon – and the best part is that because they’re often more local, you could take two or three!

Some of our favourite babymoon ideas are as follows:

  • Have a Netflix day at home, where you binge-watch a new series or your favourite movies together with your other half. There’s plenty of movies which only just came out, so make the most of them!
  • Ordering in some of your favourite takeaway. Really indulge in those carbs and sugars, and make the most of not having to share it with another person. Eat together on the couch or even in bed to make it fun and cosy.
  • Buy some books that you’ve always wanted to read and finally knuckle down with them. Kick back with a hot chocolate and your favourite snacks, and lose yourself in your new favourite fictional world.

Relaxing Babymoon Staycation Ideas

One of the most common types of babymoon is the one where you can just kick back, eat good food, have regular massages, and experience an overall relaxing time. But you don’t need to travel anywhere to have a relaxing babymoon!

For a relaxing babymoon staycation we recommend the following:

  • Going to your favourite restaurant, dressing up, and splurging on a fancy bottle of wine (alcohol free for the pregnant one) or a steak. You likely won’t have many opportunities to dine out once the baby comes, so it is best to make the most of the time that you have now. And don’t forget to order dessert too!
  • Have a home spa day: order in some face masks, bubble baths, and nail polish, and treat yourself. Alternatively, you could sign up to have a masseuse come to your house and do all the hard work for you.
  • Prepare for the arrival of the baby with a shopping date, where you stock up on clothes, toys, and necessities. Perhaps you can paint the bedroom, decorate the house, and get some pre-birth photographs framed.
  • Visit a local attraction in your city such as a gallery or museum that you either love or rarely go to. Then, you can indulge in any city experiences that may be on offer – such as a horse and carriage ride, botanical gardens, or afternoon tea.

Other Babymoon Staycation Ideas

  • Consider hiring a professional photographer to take some pregnancy photos of the two of you before your new addition – showing off your bump of course! For a budget friendly version, ask a friend or family member to take some photos for you – even smartphone photography can look pretty good these days. Or maybe you might know someone who dabbles in photography who could take some photos as a new baby gift for you?
  • You could book yourselves into a local day spa and indulge in some of the couples treatments on offer – just be sure to let them know that you’re pregnant to make sure they give you the right sorts of treatments.
  • Get every meal delivered! Just like room service in a fancy hotel. Plan ahead and figure out all the best places nearby that can deliver your favourite foods for breakfast, lunch and dinner – snacks too if you feel like it!

There’s no doubt that taking the time for a babymoon is a great idea, but, if you want to keep it budget friendly, a babymoon staycation is the perfect way to do it!

A babymoon staycation can be completely free, but you might want to splurge a little and really treat yourself before the arrival of the baby.

Whilst most would likely want to stay at home during this time or check into a local hotel, going on a local vacation to a city that you’ve always wanted to visit can also be a great option. If you’re looking for more traditional babymoon ideas click here.

However you decide to spend your babymoon, staycation or otherwise, we hope you enjoy this quiet, relaxing time together because nothing can prepare you for the whirlwind that your life is about to become! And please remember to get some sleep because it will be in short supply soon!
