There are built-in anchor pegs in each corner of the blanket which slip into the folds of the mat when not in use but are easily pulled out and pushed into the ground to anchor the mat and stop the edges from flying up in the breeze. I thought it might be difficult to push the anchor pegs into the hard ground but no, they slipped in easily – no banging or stomping required.
When playtime, or your picnic, is over, the mat easily folds back up to slide back into its pocket. The process looks daunting because it seems like there’s a lot of folds to make, but it’s very straightforward and has worked every time for me.
The folding up process is helped by the addition of magnets in each corner of the picnic blanket which help to ensure your blanket is being folded correctly. Don’t panic about the use of magnets in this product – we know that small magnets and small children are not a good mix, but the (Australian) designers at Oimmie have gone to great lengths to make sure that their picnic blanket is compliant and safe to use for children. The magnets are completely sewn into the fabric of the blanket so there is no way a child could swallow them or come to any harm.
My favourite thing about this pocket size picnic blanket is just how compact and portable it is. I plan to keep mine in my handbag at all times so that I will never be caught out with nowhere to sit again.
My children are no longer babies, instead I find myself on the sidelines of many a football match, so this portable picnic blanket will be perfect to roll out on the grass and provide a nice, dry place to sit and watch the game.
