How To Keep Your Air Fryer Clean – Air Fryer Liners

It’s no secret that I’m a bit of an air fryer fan – read all about my Innsky air fryer here. The non-stick surface of my air fryer actually makes it pretty easy to clean, but sometimes, when I’m cooking something particularly sticky or messy, I like to incorporate an air fryer liner to make clean up even easier.

I use them in the same way that I would use baking paper on a baking tray in the oven. If it’s something that I really don’t want to stick, like cookies, or something that will be really messy, like marinated meat or chicken, then I like to use baking paper or parchment paper liners in my air fryer.

Now, I know what you might be thinking, why not just use baking paper in the air fryer too? And you’d be right, I can (and sometimes do) use baking paper in my air fryer – remember, anything that’s safe to use in an oven can be used in an air fryer too.

But, I must confess, since discovering these perforated sheets of parchment paper designed for the air fryer, I tend to use these over baking paper when cooking in my air fryer now. For an air fryer to cook well, it needs to have that very hot air circulating well around the food.

These air fryer paper liners come with little holes in them to allow the hot air to circulate well while still providing a non-stick barrier between your food and the air fryer basket.

Another added bonus of using ready made liners is that they are already cut to size. I bought this pack of 100 air fryer paper liners for around $12, which works out at around 12 cents for each liner.

The liners come pre perforated so that the hot air can still get through and just the right size to comfortably line the base of my air fryer basket.

I like to use these disposable liners for foods like these meatballs. I used to cook these little guys on my stovetop but it would take ages standing there trying to flip the meatballs so that each side would brown.

Not to mention the fat splatters that would inevitably end up all over the stove and/or me. When I got my air fryer I thought it would be worth trying to cook the meatballs in it and, I was right, it was a triumph! The meatballs would cook all the way through and brown on all sides (I do always stop half way through cooking and give them a jiggle and/or flip them over).

Anyway, while the cooking process was a success, all that fat splatter and mess was now contained within the air fryer and needed a fair bit of scrubbing to get off. That’s when I discovered the wonders of parchment paper air fryer liners.

The process is not perfect. If you think about it, the holes in the paper which allow the hot air through also allow fats, oils and cooking juices to fall back through the other way.

So don’t expect to lift the parchment paper up and have a perfectly clean basket. Although, that depends on what you’re cooking. If you are using your airfryer to bake cookies, then you probably will be able to just throw away the parchment paper and your clean up will be done.

But, if you’re cooking messier foods or anything that may leak some fat or juice, you’ll find you still need to give the basket a clean once you’ve removed the parchment paper.

But, the good news is, all the hard work will be done, there’ll be nothing burnt on to the surface that will need thorough scrubbing, just a regular wipe over in a warm, soapy sink (or dishwasher) and your clean up will be done.

I’ve searched the supermarkets (Coles and Woolies) and have not been able to find these paper air fryer liners. I’m sure they’ll cotton onto the idea soon so keep a lookout for them. I did manage to find some on Catch here. This is a 200 piece pack but is still a fair bit more than double the price of the ones I bought on amazon here.

As I’ve said though, I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before the big brands in that niche, like Glad, discover this idea and then they’ll become commonplace in the supermarket.

Until then, if you don’t want to buy them on amazon, you can always just cut some baking paper to size, just remember to add some holes to it to allow the air to circulate. Lining your air fryer with some sort of parchment or baking paper is the best way to keep your air fryer clean.
