Looking for a fun activity to do with the kids? Why not make some homemade fluffy slime? Making your own slime at home is like mixing science and fun together! It’s almost magical to see how the slime starts to form as you mix the ingredients, and then it’s so much fun to play with your very own, homemade fluffy slime!
What Is Slime?
If you’re not familiar with the concept, “slime” typically refers to a viscous, gooey substance that often has a slimy or slippery texture. It’s commonly used as a recreational material for play and sensory activities, especially among children and in certain DIY crafting communities.
Slime can be made using a variety of ingredients, with the most common recipes involving mixing substances like glue, water, and a slime activator (often borax or saline solution) to create a stretchy and malleable material.
What Is Fluffy Slime?
Fluffy slime is a type of slime that has a light and airy texture, giving it a “fluffy” or cloud-like appearance and feel. It’s a popular variation of traditional slime and is often preferred for its unique tactile experience.
How To Make Fluffy Slime
Fluffy slime is easy to make, but you do need to have certain ingredients at hand. Our fluffy slime is made ‘fluffy’ with the addition of shaving cream to give it that light, airy texture. You will also need those regular, typical slime ingredients such as Borax and glue.
Begin by making a solution of ½ cup of warm water and ¼ teaspoon of Borax. (You should be able to find Borax in the cleaning aisle of your favourite supermarket.)
Set this Borax solution aside while you mix together the rest of your fluffy slime ingredients.
In a large bowl, mix together ½ cup Elmer’s Glue (it doesn’t have to be Elmer’s, Elmer’s is just a brand name of typical PVA glue, so any PVA glue will do, although, since the popularity of slime a few years ago, Elmer’s glue is now readily available in most Australian supermarkets), ½ cup shaving cream and ½ cup foaming hand soap.
Then add: 1 Tablespoon of cornflour…
A couple of pumps or squirts of hand lotion or body lotion…
And a few drops of food colouring in whatever colour you would like your slime to be.
Then add a small amount of your Borax solution, a little at a time, until it reaches your desired consistency.
That’s it! As long as you’ve already got the ingredients at the ready, making fluffy slime is very quick and easy, and so much fun to both create and play with!
